In an inspiring act of generosity and community leadership, Boston Red Sox rising star Kristian Campbell has invested $8.5 million of his own money to convert a historic Boston property into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.
The 23-year-old infielder/outfielder, who has quickly become a fan favorite for both his on-field talent and off-field humility, announced the project this morning at a press conference held near the site of the soon-to-be-transformed property in Roxbury.
“Growing up, I saw what it meant for young people to struggle without stability,” Campbell said. “This city has given me so much, and now it’s my turn to give something back — not just a donation, but a place where hope and safety live.”
The shelter, named Campbell House, will offer more than just beds — it’s designed as a holistic support center providing counseling, educational programs, job training, and 24/7 mentorship. The project will partner with local nonprofits, schools, and healthcare providers, aiming to become a national model for youth homelessness intervention.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu praised the initiative: “Kristian’s heart is as big as his swing. This is a transformative gift for Boston’s future, especially for our youth who need it most.”
Construction on Campbell House is set to begin this summer, with a projected opening date in e
arly 2026.
